The sensational Thracian treasure unearthed in Bulgaria late Monday consists of 74 pieces, media said. More than twenty of the items are solid gold.

Archeologist claim the discovery to be the largest and oldest Thracian tomb ever found in Bulgaria. The ceremonial three-premise construction was built 2,400 years ago, according to discoverer Georgi Kitov.

The place has remained unknown to treasure-hunters, and archeologist came upon an impressive collection of gold, silver, bronze and ceramic items.

Police were quick to encircle the site after the crucial discovery, to make sure all the pieces are safe. Archeologists even said they have been mistreated, with police officers making "humiliating" checks before letting the scientists out of the tomb.
