BULGARIAN AMBASSADOR TO US RESIGNS

Politics | November 20, 2001, Tuesday // 00:00

“I’ll hand in my resignation on the last day of president Stoyanov’s mandate – January 22, 2002”, Philip Dimitrov, Bulgarian Ambassador to the United States said in an interview for Radio Free Europe. He explained that he does not want to be Bulgarian Ambassador if Georgi Parvanov is the new Head of State. According to him the cause to which he has dedicated all the years in Bulgarian political life - the fall of communism – now is being questioned. This is not a rejection of the institution, he added. Philip Dimitrov said he does not see Parvanov's election as part of Bulgaria’s progress forward. Still he expressed the hope that Bulgaria will receive an invitation to join NATO.
