Maxim Minchev, General Director of the Bulgarian News Agency, presented his book "Atlantic Solitaire" on Tuesday.
Minchev, who is a Member of Council of the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria and a founding member of the Club, wrote his book inspired by Bulgaria's recent entry into NATO and its long way to that considerable achievement. The book presents an amply documented and illustrated history of the Atlantic Club since its establishment in 1991.
The Atlantic Club of Bulgaria was born in 1990. It was formed by a group of young MPs from the democratic coalition, who argued in Parliament on the necessity for Bulgaria to join the Allied Forces.
The small group was soon joined by enthusiasts with deeper views on national security: politicians, businessmen, diplomats, scholars, journalists, military and state officials, who met first on January 7, 1991 to proclaim their firm will that the country joins the Euro-Atlantic community. On April 4, 1991 they met again to establish the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, commemorating the Anniversary of the Washington Treaty.
