Bulgarian music artists joined a campaign for painting safety lanes in capital Sofia on Tuesday. The move comes prior to the first day of school, September 15, and aims to increase road safety for students.

Pop veterans Vassil Naydenov, Blagovest Argirov and Stenly joined superstar bands Karizma, Te and Safo in the event in front of the Lyubomir Pipkov music school. Choosing the site came as no surprise since the campaign was launched by Sofia-based BG Radio, airing Bulgaria-produced tunes only.

The OMV chain of gas station partners the radio in the initiative.

Organizers have cited official reports saying that most of the road accident victims in Bulgaria were pedestrians.

The most part of the deadly accidents take place in larger urban areas, mainly at the crossroads, according to the BG Radio website.
