Bulgarian FM Makes Art Pause

Bulgaria's foreign minister took some time off from state diplomatic duties Tuesday, and traveled to Haskovo to buy a painting.

Minister Solomon Passy was drawn to the southern Bulgarian town where distinguished artist Nikola Manev opened an exhibition. Passy purchased one of Manev's works to complement the Foreign Ministry's paintings collection.

In an address to guests of the expo, the minister said that Bulgaria's cultural feats were just as important as diplomatic successes, such as the NATO entry and the EU entry talks.

Nikola Manev was born in the small Bulgarian town of Chirpan, but has been living in Paris for more than 40 years.
