The Sarajevo film festival enjoyed this year's edition with the top awarding of Bulgarian movie "Mila from Mars" by Zornitsa Sophia.
The jury chaired by British director Mike Leigh awarded the festival's grand prix and 25,000 euros to the young lady director from Bulgaria.
Milan Tocinovski of Macedonia and Marija Skarcic of Croatia received the best actor and actress awards respectively and 2,500 euros each, while the jury's special award and 10,000 euros went to "A Wonderful Night in Split" by Arsen Anton Ostojic of Croatia.
The eight-day festival that closed over the weekend showed 180 films from over 40 countries and its special guests included US star John Malkovich and Gerard Depardieu, one of France's leading screen idols, as well as Oscar-winning British director Anthony Minghella.
The first Sarajevo film festival had been organized in 1995 against all odds, in the city besieged by Bosnian Serb forces, cut off from water and electricity supplies and receiving food via a UN humanitarian airlift.
But a group of enthusiasts managed to contact directors of international festivals and filmmakers and get into the city the prints of 37 films through a secret tunnel built under the airport - the capital's only link with the outside world.
