Evgeni Minchev, said to be Bulgaria's first ever celebrity newsman, was released Friday after spending fifteen days in custody on hooliganism charges.

Minchev was arrested in Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Varna after a nightclub scuffle. Minchev was said to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

My stay in custody was a very enlightening experience, Evgeni Minchev told the private Bulgarian TV channel bTV.

The cell was much more luxurious than the room I lived in as a kid, Minchev said, apparently trying to make light the time he spent behind bars.

I proved to be a very enduring person, he said.

Evgeni Minchev has been contributing to leading Bulgarian media on issues concerning high life persons and glitzy cocktails. A former tram-driver, he now offers public relations services to V.I.P. persons, and recently opened his own model agency.
