Bulgarian sherpas, or tour guides, take visitors on tracks in the Rila Mountain during the summer, charging BGN 10 for packing their loads on the backs of horses.

The sherpas started guiding tourists up the mountain as the numerous disciples of Danovism brought their rituals to the Seven Rila Lakes, which they consider sacred.

Some of the sherpas have even joined the rituals of the pilgrims, who worship here the Sun.

The sherpas may lose their jobs as investors are set to start the construction of a lift to the lakes.
