FIRES,ILLEGAL TREE CUTTING TO BE CONSIDERED CRIMES

“The Ministry of Environment will demand that intentional fires and illegal cutting of trees are recognized as crimes by the Criminal Code,” Dolores Arsenova, Bulgarian Minister of Environment said. She explained that the proposals will be discussed by a working group of experts of the ministry and other institutions. Amendments to the Environmental Protection Act were approved by the Cabinet. According to the amendments, municipalities will receive 80% of the receipts from environmental sanctions, compared to only 5% currently. Also, the National Environmental Protection Fund will be transformed into a department at the ministry of environment.
