Bulgaria joined world celebrations of the Assumption of Virgin Mary.

The holy day was shadowed by the conflict in the Bulgarian church as masses were served both in the churches and in front of them.

The church conflict was sharpened in mid July when police evicted dissident priests out of dozens of churches for the mainstream Synod to take their place. Ousted priests from the dissident Bulgarian clergy announced their determination to stay vigil in front of their churches until allowed back into them.

The protests of the ousted priests continued even during one of the holiest holidays in the year the Assumption of Virgin Mary.
