Bulgarian archeologists, conducting folklore surveys, have unearthed a mediaeval church and the foundations of antique buildings near the village of Dospey, located two kilometers southeast of Samokov, Southern Bulgaria.

Samokov municipality finances the studies of Shishmanovo kale fortress, which is the first archeological site, featuring in Bulgarian periodicals. The initiative is part of a project aiming to adapt archeological excavations to the needs of the country's budding cultural tourism.

What appear to be the remnants of a church, dated to XII-XIVth century, are located at the lower part of a mediaeval complex, covering some thirty decares.
