The unique Bulgarian home of dolphins, the "Varna Dolphinarium", celebrated on Wednesday its 20th birthday.
The Dolphinarium was opened August 11, 1984. It boasts over 1,200 seats and the pool is filled with seawater through a special system.
The first dolphins came from Spain July 31, 1984 and it took the trainers just two weeks to prepare the new actors. Now, Varna Dolphinarium hosts five dolphin stars: Dolly, Kimbo, Popi, Yoana and the eight-month baby Bimbo.
The presentations in the dolphinarium are viewed annually by over 200,000 people, most of them foreigners.
