The Russian Economy Ministry has renewed Bulgarian SK-Bulgartabac’s license for production of Bulgarian cigarettes in the Russian town of Podolsk for another five years. SK Bulgartabac is a joint venture between Bulgaria’s Shoumen –BT, which owns 80%, and the Russian Meta-Tabac. The factory is one of the seven companies abroad, owned by the Bulgarian tobacco company Bulgartabac Holding. The holding’s first joint ventures were set up in 1998, when the duty on tobacco imports from Bulgaria to Russia was drastically increased. Bulgartabac Holding has majority stakes in another three Russian tobacco factories in Belgorod, Sochi and Kaliningrad.
