If you are a beginner in exercising your body, the best thing would be to see your physician first. A medical check is necessary if you are over 35, you are a smoker, or haven't done any exercising in a long time.

Always warm-up before the basic fitness routine. Walk or do some stretching exercises for at least 5-10 minutes.

When you're almost done with the practice, do a "reversed warm-up." This is needed to bring your heart rate down. Stretching is good in this case as well.
