STOYANOV - KUTSKOVA

Petur Stoyanov who runs for second mandate was born in 1952. He is a law graduate of Sofia University “St Kliment Ohridski". In 1992, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice in the first non-communist government of Bulgaria since 1944. In 1996 he was elected Member of the 37th Bulgarian Parliament. On November 3 ,1996 he was elected President of the Republic of Bulgaria with 59,73 % of the votes. On January 22 1997 he stepped into office. Stoyanov speaks English and German.

Nelly Kutskova used to be Chairperson of the Sofia Regional Court.

BONEV-ZHELEZCHEV

The candidate for President Bogomil Bonev was born in 1957 in Radomir, Bulgaria. In 1981, he graduated the Higher Institute for Training Officers and Scientific Personnel at the Ministry of the Interior. In 1989, he received a master's degree in Law from the St. Kliment Ohridski University, Sofia. In May 1997 Bogomil Bonev was assigned the post of minister of the Interior in the government formed by the Union of Democratic Forces with Ivan Kostov in the lead. In December 1999 he was dismissed from his post of Interior Minister at Kostov's proposal for structural and personal changes in the United Democratic Forces Cabinet.

Atanas Zhelezchev has been member of the Governing Council of the Bulgarian Agriculture National Union – Nikola Petkov since 1990. Member of the Standing Committee of union since 1995. He used to be Deputy Speaker of the 37th Parliament.

INDZHOVA - ILLOV

Reneta Indzhova was born in 1953. Indzhova was appointed Interim Prime Minister of Bulgaria from October 17 1994 to January 25 1995 to prepare for new elections and to bridge the period until a new government was formed. In 1995, she run for Mayor of Sofia. 17.19% supported her then. She is the only female Prime Minister in Bulgaria. Her candidature is supported by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

Krustio Illov who runs with Indzhova for Vice President was Bulgarian Ambassador to Lybia. Illov is a member of the National Executive Council of “Democratic Alliance,” chaired by Reneta Indzhova.

GANCHEV - BONCHEV

George Ganchev, whose birth name is Gheorghi Petroushev, was born on 29 August 1939 in Plovdiv. He chaired the Bulgarian Business Block since its founding in 1990. MP (elected in Varna) in the 37th Parliament(Parliamentary Group of BBB) until Apr. George Ganchev ran for president in the 1992 and 1996 presidential elections. Currently, he chairs George Ganchev’s Block. He worked abroad as film producer, director, screen-play writer and actor. Ganchev runs for president for the third time.

Vesslin Bonchev was born in 1938. In 1997, he was elected MP in the 38th Bulgarian Parliament. Since 25 July, 2000 till the end of his mandate in the 38th Parliament, Bonchev was independent MP. Before that, he used to be member of the governing body of the Bulgarian Business Block.

PURVANOV - MARIN

Georgi Sedefchov Purvanov was born in 1957 in the village of Sirishtnik, near Sofia. He is a PhD history graduate of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.” In 1991, he became member of the Supreme Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP). He has been its Chairman since December 1996. In 1997 he was elected Member of the 37th National Assembly in the Parliamentary group of the Democratic Left and of the 39th National Assembly in the Parliamentary Group of “Coalition for Bulgaria”, whose Chairman he is since June 2001.

General Major Anguel Marin was born in 1942 in Batak. From 1990 till 1998, he was Commander of the Rocket Forces and Artillery of the Ground Forces in the Bulgarian Army. In 1998 he was fired because of his disagreements with the reforms in the army. Since then he is retired. Author of the book “The Last War”.

BERON - ANDREEV

Petur Kirilov Beron was born in Sofia in 1940. He is a graduate of the Biology Geology-Geography Department of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Petur Beron began his political activities as member of the independent Ecoglasnost movement. He was Secretary of the United Democratic Forces Chairman of the coalition. In June 1991 he was elected member of the 7th Grand National Assembly. In the presidential election in 1992 he ran for president, with Geroge Ganchev, leader of the Business Block, as his running mate. They won 17% iof the votes. At the latest general elections in 2001 he was nominated by the Union of the Patriotic Forces and the soldiers in the reserve “Zashtita”.

Stoyan Andreev was born in 1934. He is General in the reserve. He was national security adviser to president Zhelyo Zhelev. Now he is Director of the National Center for Strategic Studies.
