The Austrian Foreign Minister Dr Ferrero-Waldner said that she is expecting the stand of the Bulgarian Government on the closure of generating units three and four of the Kozloduy Nuclear Plant after she met the Bulgarian Foreign Minister Passy. She recalled that Bulgaria promised to close the oldest generating units - One and Two, by 2003 and to announce when it will close Generating Units Three and Four in 2002. According to Dr Ferrero-Waldner this should not take place later than 2006. “Austria will continue its financial support for the closure of the old generating units,” the Austrian Foreign Minister said. Austrian Foreign Minister Dr Ferrero-Waldner informed her Bulgarian counterpart of the progress of the initiative for setting up an organization for cooperation among the Danubian countries. The initiative was launched in July by Austria, Romania, the European Commission and the Stability Pact and is being supported by Bulgaria. “Austria fully supports Bulgaria's accession to the EU and hopes that the new Government of Simeon Saxe-Coburg will continue the reforms aunched in Bulgaria,” Austrian Foreign Minister Ferrero-Waldner told journalists. Following his talks with Dr Ferrero-Waldner, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister met the Speaker of the Austrian Nationalrat, Dr Heinz Fischer, and delivered a message from Bulgarian Parliament Speaker Ognyan Gerdzhikov. Later in the day, Passy left for Strasbourg to attend the 109th session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
