Bulgaria-crowned contestant at Miss Universe 2004 has stirred the jury's attention narrating about Bulgaria's traditional dances.
Ivelina Petrova stepped in the show with a meter-high "Kuker" doll that represents the traditional Bulgarian "Kukeri" ritual.
The Kukers are male dancers dressed in sheepskin garments and wearing scary masks and chanove (copper bells) on their belts, dancing and singing songs and chants, with the intention to scare away the evil spirits or ghosts which people believed came back to the living ones in winter.
Talking to local Nacional Daily, Ivelina said she felt like a princess and shared her happiness with finding so many friends there.
Varna-born Ivelina Petrova, 18, is competing with young women from over 80 countries in this year's pageantry show held in Ecuador's capital Quito. The costs involved in organising the event are somewhere in the range of USD 10 M.
Miss Universe 2004 will be known on June 1. The winner gets year long salary as Miss Universe and a luxury New York City riverside apartment for the year of her reign, enjoying many more year-long cash and honorable awards.
