”The meeting between the Bulgarian delegation and NATO representatives at the Brussels headquarters raised questions that will change our understanding of the Alliance as a purely military organization,” Elena Poptodorova, the spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry said, quoted by Pari Daily. The first question concerned the tensions between the General Staff and the civilian Ministry of Defense. The social approval percentage in Bulgaria regarding NATO membership has been also discussed. According to Poptodorova the social approval stands at 64%. The education of Gypsies and the ombudsman institution introduction have been considered as well. Sophia Kassidova, Deputy Economy Minister, presented the economic and financial aspects of the Annual National program 2001-2002 in Brussels. The program is part of the NATO Membership Action Plan.
