BANK PRIVATIZATION TO END BY MID-2003

Bulgarian bank privatization will be completed by mid-2003, Neli Kordovska, the newly elected executive director of the Bulgarian Bank Consolidation Company (BCC), announced on November 6. The sale of State Savings Bank, the last deal in the banking sector privatization, is to take place in the middle of 2003. A total of twelve local and European banks have been invited to for participation in the privatization of the Bulgarian Commercial Bank Biochim. Most of them have insisted on prolonging the deadline for submitting bids until April 2002. Bulgarian Bulbank is one of the bidders for Biochim.
