GREECE – AMONG TOP INVESTORS IN BULGARIA

Representatives of Greek companies and banks in Bulgaria, Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Nikolay Vassilev and Finance Minister Milen Velchev had a working meeting on November 6. The meeting was organized on the initiative of Greek Ambassador to Bulgaria Michalis Christidis as part of the Embassy's efforts to promote bilateral relations and encourage Greek investment in Bulgaria. The meeting was attended by the Executive Directors and Presidents of more than 60 of the major Greek and Bulgarian-Greek companies operating in Bulgaria. "We are very proud of the number and the quality of Greek companies and banks that have invested considerable funds into the Bulgarian economy over the past few years and thus contributed to its faster development ," Ambassador Christidis said. The two ministers acquainted the participants in the meeting with the Bulgarian Government's guidelines and priorities regarding the business climate and the financial environment in which their companies will operate in future. Over the past five or six years, the size and the quality of investment made by Greek companies or by Bulgarian companies owned by Greek nationals have increased considerably. According to unofficial data, Greek investment in Bulgaria exceeds USD 600 M, which places Greece among the top foreign investors in
Bulgaria. The over 500 Greek and Bulgarian-Greek companies, registered in Bulgaria, provide jobs to almost 47,000 Bulgarians.
