Ten more projects have been approved for funding under the European Union's SAPARD Programme. Five of these projects are for purchase of grain harvesting equipment. Two projects will involve building, renovation, and equipment of meat-packaging facilities. Another three projects are designed to upgrade the processing and marketing of meat products; two of them focus on improving the sanitary conditions and the quality of production, and one on building a slaughterhouse. The new projects add up to a total of 38 ones approved for SAPARD funding. The first ten, approved in June 2001, were for purchase of specialized farming equipment. Another 18 projects were approved in July, including 13 for farming equipment, one for plant nurseries and a shed, and one for a poultry farm. Two of the projects were for purchase of equipment for wine-making and vegetable processing, and one for renovation of an old winery. In December 2000, Bulgaria was the first among all countries seeking EU membership to sign a multi-annual financial agreement on the SAPARD Programme. For seven years, the country will be receiving EUR 53 M every year.
