The Defense Minister Nikolay Svinarov opened in residence Boyana the sixth international conference “Security policy and defense – the challenges of the new millennium.” “The five day forum is unique because of the participation of scientists and experts, who will discuss the new challenges of the unpredictable future to come up with messages, needed by the global community,” Minister Svinarov pointed out. “The event confirms that Bulgaria generates security,” the minister added. The participants will discuss the threats for the dissemination of weapons for mass extermination, for the epidemics and different terrorist acts, from corruption and organized crimes. The perspectives of the security in Central and Southeastern Europe, the Near East and Central Asia, the NATO enlargement and the US and EU security policy will be discussed. The Bulgarian budget envisages to spend BGN 89 M on the army and court system reform, according to Svinarov.
