"The Boston business community is intrigued by the new economic policy of the government," the Economy Ministry announced after Deputy Economy Minister Sofia Kasidova returned from a conference at Harvard University. The conference on "Bulgaria and Romania: Development Challenges En Route to EU" was co-organized by UNHCR and the Kokkalis program. Kasidova presented at the conference the vision of the government about the challenges that Bulgaria faces on the road to EU membership and the key aspects of its future work. Special attention was paid to the harmonization of Bulgarian and EU law, which is an important prerequisite for the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy. Kasidova expects heightened investor interest towards Bulgaria. The Harvard administration is supportive of the idea for a public administration scholarship for Bulgarian students. The conference was attended by World Bank country director for Bulgaria and Romania Andrew Vorkink, US Ambassador to Bulgaria Richard Miles, representatives of UNHCR and the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, former Harvard business school graduates and local business people.
