PRESIDENT INSISTS ON NEW RADIO AND TELEVISION LAW

Politics | November 1, 2001, Thursday // 00:00

President Petur Stoyanov and thirteen representatives of the Bulgarian Media Coalition and the Association of the Private Radio and Television Stations were unanimous that Bulgaria needs new laws on Radio and Television. The president met representatives of nongovernmental professional organizations on November 1 and asked for their opinion on the amendments to the Law on Radio and Television. Even after this meeting it is still not clear whether the President would put a veto on the amendments to the law, as adopted by Parliament. The letter of the eight journalists from the Bulgarian National Television, urging the president to sign the amendments in order to stop the draining of the television, has not been discussed at the meeting.
