EXPERTS DISCUSS BULGARIA'S CHALLENGES AT HARVARD

Deputy Economy Minister Sofia Kassidova and US Ambassador to Bulgaria Richard Miles participated in a panel on the challenges that Bulgaria faces at Harvard`s University Kennedy School of Government in the United States. The two speakers highlighted different economic, political and social aspects of the convergence process, as well as the major obstacles faced by Bulgaria, commenting on the way to overcome them. Special emphasis was given on the economic development of Bulgaria and intense efforts to provide macroeconomic stability, transparency, deepened capital markets and a solid institutional growth that will enable growth. Scholars from Harvard, MIT and Tufts Universities were among the panelists. They talked about “the reform fatigue” that the country is suffering from. They also illustrated the challenge of adapting the Bulgarian society and administration in order to comply with European Union accession. The event was organized by the Kokkalis Program on Southeastern and East-central Europe in collaboration with the Sofia branch of the United Nations` Refugee Agency.
