Insurance companies announced the start of the 2002 Civil Liability car insurance campaign on October 29, 2001. The insurance is obligatory for all car owners. Insurance premiums are due to be paid by the end of 2001. All Bulgarian insurance companies offer the obligatory insurance rate at equal prices. The actual sum is determined by the cubic capacity of the car engine. The price for cars with engine capacity of up to 1,300 cubic meters is BGN 43, for engine capacity of up to 1,800 cubic meters – BGN 49 , for cars with capacity of up to 2,500 cubic meters – BGN 56. These categories include popular car makes like Lada, Opel, Ford, Volkswagen, Peugeot and BMW. Insurance companies also offer a voluntary civil liability insurance, which guarantees higher insurance indemnities for car owners.
