VISIT OF FOREIGN MINISTER TO DENMARK POSTPONED

Foreign Minister Solomon Passy's visit to Denmark, originally scheduled for October 31-November 2, has been postponed due to the dissolution of the Danish Parliament, the preparations for early parliamentary elections and local elections in that country, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry announced. The Danish Foreign Ministry officially apologized for the postponement and expressed willingness to co-organize a visit in the same format at a time convenient for both sides. Earlier in the day, Bulgarian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Elena Poptodorova told the press that Minister Passy was leaving on an official visit to Denmark and announced his agenda. `Being one of the leading members of NATO, Denmark unequivocally supported Bulgaria's bid for nonpermanent membership of the United Nations Security Council, Poptodorova said. The Bulgarian authorities rely on Denmark's support for a NATO membership invitation to Bulgaria, hopefully to be extended in Prague in 2002. "We also rely on full support for Bulgaria in the process of its accession to the European Union," Poptodorova said. On November 4 and 5 Minister Passy will pay an official visit to Slovenia, the spokeswoman announced. `Passy will hold talks with President Milan Kucan, Parliament Chairman Tone Hrovat, and Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel.Passy is expected to sign an agreement to abolish the visa requirement between the two countries, and accords on cooperation in combatting organized crime, drug smuggling, terrorism and other serious crimes, in multi-mode transport, and in science, education and culture,` Poptodorova said. On November 6 Passy will pay an official visit to Austria at the invitation of Foreign Minister Benita-Maria Ferrero-Waldner. On November 7 and 8 Passy will attend a regular meeting of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers in Strasbourg.
