The Cabinet will approve the new structure of the Bulgarian military forces in the framework of Plan 2004 on November 1, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Elena Poptodorova announced. She added that the aim of the changes is to give a clear proof to the NATO Headquarters that the military reform is being introduced. The proposal is for the introduction of a three-tier command: General Headquarters, Main Headquarters and divisional commands. Under the update of Plan 2004, the strength of the army remains at 45,000 as is stated in the country's military doctrine. Accelerating the implementation of personnel cuts and with them the implementation of programs for training and social adaptation of redundant military personnel is being discussed. ”This is a priority for the Defence Ministry, the cabinet and the Bulgarian society as a whole,” Poptodorova said. The results will be reported to Brussels.The joint talks between Bulgaria and NATO for the country’s annual program for NATO accession start on November 5 in Brussels. The Deputy Foreign Minister Petko Draganov and the Deputy Defense Minister Radi Naydenov will represent Bulgaria in the conversations. The proposal for the army reform will be discussed in Brussels.
