BONEV CLAIMS HIS CAMPAIGN FUNDING IS LEGAL

Bogomil Bonev, candidate president, nominated by the Civic Party for Bulgaria, admitted in Pazardzhik that “Albena Invest Holding” was among the companies financing his pre-election campaign. The current Social Minister Lidia Shuleva used to be the holding’s director. The candidate for President pointed out that the funds for his pre-election campaign had been donated in a legal way. So far, they amount to BGN 120, 000. Bogomil Bonev denied the statements that the Russian mafia funded his campaign. He accused certain media of canvassing against him. “There is only one thing that I am ashamed of and this is the day when I had to read the lists with the records of the informers within the Former State Security in Parliament,” the candidate president said at a meeting in the overcrowded Concert Hall in Plovdiv. Bonev claims that he was forced to do this, a trap deliberately set by the then Prime Minister Ivan Kostov. This strained his relations with representatives of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms. In connection with the present Ministry of the Interior, he said that the ministry was still trying to overcome “the shock it suffered during Emanuil Yordanov’s term.”
