The working group of the national police chiefs in the 15 European Union member states opened its fourth meeting in Brussels on October 30. It is the first meeting that is attended by representatives of EU applicant states. General Vassil Vassilev, Director of the National Police, represents Bulgaria in Brussels. The two-day meeting was opened by Belgian Interior Minister Antoine Dusquene, President-in-Office of the Justice, Home Affairs and Civil Protection Council of the European Union. The fight against trafficking in human beings and ways to guarantee greater security at European Union summits are to be discussed. General Vassilev pointed out that last year Bulgarian authorities have stopped 202 foreign citizens from illegally entering the country. Twenty-three of them were Afghans. "Bulgaria is working and will be working for the security of the European Union external borders," General Vassilev said.
