The Bulgarian municipalities Montana, Berkovitsa, Chiprovtsi, Chuprene, and Belogradchik, all in Northwestern Bulgaria, have been included in a Balkan Range Transborder Project. The Yugoslav side is represented by the authorities of Knjazevac, Dimitrovgrad, Pirot, and Zajcar. `The project, worth EUR 120,000, is financed by the Swiss Government,` Mariana Asenova, Chief Expert for Environmental Protection in Montana said. The initiative will involve renovation of tourist facilities, development of environmental and rural tourism, afforestation, and flora and fauna protection in the Northwestern section of the Balkan Range. Dutch NGOs have also shown interest in the project. They are ready to propose initiatives for the establishment of tourist information centres in Berkovitsa and Belogradchik.
