Bulgaria's world-famous violin player Vasko Vassilev swept the Musician of 2003 Award of the state radio.

He was handed the statuette by its designer Hristo Haralampiev, at Tuesday evening's ceremony.

Those are Bulgaria's first ever classical music awards in which listeners choose the winner themselves. Last year, 900 of the National Radio's audience voted in the Musician of the Year poll.

The Best Debut award went to violin player Marina Dimitrova. The Strings quartet landed the prize for performance in other classical genres. The latest album by Vesselina Katsarova was chosen this year's best one. The youth orchestra of Sofia-based Classic FM Radio was awarded for most active creative work.

Former rhythmic gymnastics world champion Lili Ignatova won the prize for best spectacle, with The Legend.
