Society | March 23, 2004, Tuesday // 00:00

The number of tuberculosis suffering Bulgarians is rising up, men infected twice more often than women.

According to a survey of the Hygiene Epidemiological Institute, the persons registered as ill with tuberculosis were 98 last year, compared to 13 alone in 1990.

The most strongly affected age group consists of persons between 20 and 29 years old.

The World Health Organization has found an increasing global tendency of tuberculosis illness, with about 3 million people dying every year.

Healthy way of life, regular tuberculosis immunization and chemical therapy can keep the disease away, experts say.

March 24 is announced the World Day of Tuberculosis Fight.
