Politics | October 30, 2001, Tuesday // 00:00

Residents from the Turkish minority in Haskovo, Ivailovgrad, Harmanli, Madzharovo and Stambolovo municipalities set up an Initiative Committee supporting the candidate presidential couple Stoaynov-Kutskova. The new organization’s headquarters is in the town of Haskovo. It aims to attract more supporters from the minority for the candidate presidential couple by explaining their program. According to Myumyun Mestan, the Committee Chairman, Petur Stoyanov shares the Turkish minority’s views on integration and prosperity. The committee is the first public declaration of the Turkish minority’s support for Petur Stoyanov. Most of the committee’s founders are young and educated people who are not members of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF). The local structures of the MRF refused to comment the establishment of the committee.
