Bulgarian statesmen joined foreign envoys to the country at a St Patrick's Day party in Sofia. The event took place at the Hilton hotel, and was hosted by Austin Gormley, Charge d' Affairs of the Embassy of Ireland to Bulgaria.

Among the gusts were top envoys of the US, Greece, Austria and Romania.

St Patrick's Day is celebrated in Ireland with grand parades, community feasts and charity show. The parades, shamrocks, and green beer are provided primarily for tourists. In fact, it has turned out to be one of the most celebrated events in Ireland and a major tourist attraction.

One traditional icon of St. Patrick's Day is the shamrock. This stems from the Irish tale that tells how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Trinity. Shamrocks have been considered by the Irish as good-luck symbols since earliest times.

A leprechaun looks like a small, (ugly) old man, usually dressed like a shoemaker. According to legend, leprechauns are aloof and unfriendly, live alone and possess a hidden pot of gold.
