Thousands of Bulgarian women of all age received colorful bouquets and small gifts from their family and loved ones on March 8, the International Women's Day.

The holiday has been enjoying great popularity in Bulgaria, with special regards for women who have children, as well as for schoolteachers.

On this day, all of the country's femmes - from the youngest to elderly ones - receive phone calls, greeting messages and cards, as well as "womanly" presents such as jewelry, perfumes, exquisite shawls and other accessories, or just charming little souvenirs and beautifully wrapped candy boxes.

The idea of an International Women's Day first arose at the turn of the century, and today the occasion is marked by women's groups around the world.
