“Bulgaria will introduce motorway tolls in 2006 or 2007,” Ivan Saev, Deputy Minister of Regional Development, said. During the negotiations with the European Commission on the transport policy, the Bulgarian Government will insist on a transition period for the toll introduction. The government intends to collect the toll by setting up toll booths and using entry and exit tickets. The major motorways’ construction and reconstruction in connection with their capacity to sustain trucks weighing up to 11,5 tones, is planned to be finished by the time Bulgaria becomes EU member.
