MINISTER: BRUSSELS AGAINST BG STATE OFFICIAL ACT

Politics | October 25, 2001, Thursday // 00:00

“The amendments to the State Official Act will change all its texts,” Dimitur Kalchev, Minister of State Administration, said in Russe. According to the Minister, Brussels does not accept the current act because it secures the official’s position regardless of the way one fulfills one`s responsibilities. It also fails to attract Bulgarians living abroad because of the requirement for relevant working experience in Bulgaria. According to the current act each person who applies for high-ranking position in the state administration is required to have 12 years of relevant working experience. An English team of the British know-how fund prepares the amendments. On October 25, Dimitur Kalchev filed his resignation as Mayor of Russe. The Constitutional court decided on October 25 that Minisers cannot be Mayors of municipalities. Deputy Prime Minister Paskalev filed his resignation as Mayor of Blagoevgrad on October 24.
