The members of the Bulgarian Antarctic scholars will mark their tenth anniversary on Livingston Island with cheese and the traditional Bulgarian alcoholic drink rakiya. `The expedition`s is being intensely prepared, its members are living on November 10,` Associate Professor Hristo Pimpirev, Director of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute said. 15 people will participate in the delegation, including a medical doctor, a mechanic, a student of Arabic and an engineer, two geologists from the University of Munich, and two glaciologists from the University of Luxembourg. The foreign researchers will take part in two international geological projects together with their Bulgarian partners. The expedition will continue to look for Jura fossils. `Last year, its members found a unique species which has been proven to have lived during the Jura age,` Pimpirev said. The projects of the expedition are part of a long-term scientific program, adopted in 1995, that covers geology, geochemistry, meteorology, ecology, glaciology, and biology. Bulgaria has been an `Antarctic` country since it signed the Antarctic Treaty (AT) in 1978 as a non-voting member. In 1998, it became full member in the AT organization. Together with other 26 countries, it has the right to veto on all issues concerning the fate of the territory of Antarctica, representing one-tenth of the planet.
