A new dressing plant of Medika AD of Sandanski opened on October 23. EUR 2 M were provided by EBRD in its capacity as a shareholder in Medika. The Executive Director, Richard Voicehovsky said that the new facility is one of the most modern in Europe and meets all requirements for production of medical consumables. The production conditions comply both with the local and with the European requirements and the prescriptions for good practices. `The production of the plant will open up the doors to the European markets for the Medika products,` Voicehovsky said. The plant will be commissioned in late January 2002. It will produce dressing materials and tampons. An extension that will be built at a later stage will include a laboratory and a sterilizer.
