The first casting for the part of Viktor Krum in the fourth Harry Potter film will take place in Sofia's "Studentski Dom" on two successive days - February 4 and 5, Bulgarian producer Victor Bozhinov told novinite.com. The English company shooting the blockbuster Harry Potter contacted Bozhinov after producers revealed they want a real Bulgarian to be cast as Viktor Krum.

The candidates for the role of the 17-year-old captain of the Bulgarian Quidditch team, one of the leading roles in the movie, are required to be aged 15-19, swarthy boys in good health. Some knowledge of English is also obligatory. Their appearance must answer to a certain extent the not-so-flattering description of the character in the book - dark, bushy eyebrows, a crooked nose and a slouch.

Yet charm is a must, Bozhinov said, adding that the boy must fit the role of a leader and have the necessary qualities.

Following the preliminary casting in Sofia the videotapes of the selected candidates will be flown to London where the final selection will be made.

JK Rowling put Bulgaria at centre stage of the fourth book after being inspired by the country's fourth place in the 1994 World Cup. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, magicians from all over the world take part in the Quidditch World Cup, and Krum leads the Bulgarians.

Krum, the 17-year-old captain of the Bulgarian Quidditch team, also plays the love interest for Harry Potter's school friend Hermione Grainger.

London is still expected to answer the suggestion that the whole team Krum leads be played by real Bulgarians in the movie.

Bozhinov had said earlier that casting directors in London were worried by the little time left as the shooting of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will start in April. He explained that the movie directors are aiming to create authentic atmosphere and as in the JK Rowling book Viktor-Krum is a Bulgarian boy it was decided that someone from the Balkan country has to play that part.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire premier is planned for 2005.
