The largest copper processing company in Bulgaria, Unicore Med of Pirdrop, announced that it would adhere its expansion strategy regardless of the decreasing international prices and the poorer financial outcome for the last financial period. Work on the cathode copper refinery construction will go on. Unicore Med plans to invest USD 60 M in the first stage of the project. The company`s net profit for the first half of 2001 was BGN 4.989 M, which was less compared to 2000 when the net profit stood at BGN 21.53 M. The production for the first nine months of this year stands at 116,930 tons of anode copper and 26,890 tons of cathode copper, against last year`s 125,290 tons and 23,730 tons, respectively. The management said it plans to expand production so that the overall output for 2001 equals the 2000 one. No lay-offs are planned by this year`s end.
