62% APPROVE BULGARIAN POSITION IN THE CONFLICT

46.2% of the respondents in a poll, conducted by the sociological team of the Military Clubs and Information Executive Agency with the Defense Ministry, think that the strikes by the US and their allies against Afghanistan will have a negative effect on the economic situation in Bulgaria. The poll was conducted by phone and included 385 residents of Sofia and other Bulgarian big towns. 7.5% of the interviewed believe that the conflict will improve the economic situation in Bulgaria, while 29.9% said that there will be no change. Most Bulgarians are not alarmed as far as the Bulgarian national security is concerned. The poll showed that 66.2% of the respondents do not think that there is threat for the national security. One from five, mostly people over 60 years of age, said they fear such a threat. Their fears are caused by the possibility that at some point Bulgaria could be involved in the conflict. The poll showed that 47.7%, mostly men and people up to 40 years of age, approve the strikes against Afghanistan, carried out by the US and their allies. 40.1% of the respondents do not approve the retaliatory strikes, and 12.2% do not have opinion on the issue. 61.8% approve the Bulgarian position in the conflict. Mostly men, people between 31 and 60 years of age, students or people with university degrees and people working in the public sector fall in this category. 23.4% do not approve Bulgaria`s position.
