This year, Romania was for the first time included in the global competitiveness report drawn by the World Economic Forum, along with other 16 states, among which Slovenia, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
The report, drawn before the 11 September terrorist attacks in the US, places Romania in the 56th position among 75 countries ranked at the index of competitiveness increase, while Bulgaria and Russia ranked 59th and 63rd, respectively, and Ukraine 69th.
Romania ranks 61st at the index of current competitiveness, and, of former communist countries, only Bulgaria ranks behind it - the 68th. Ranking first is Finland, followed by the US and the Netherlands, while Bolivia is the last. The classification has been drawn according to an investigation of the World Economic Forum international economic organization, in cooperation with the prestigious Harvard University, and involved 46,000 company directors and businesspersons.
