No wave of refugees to Bulgaria has been observed as a result of the strikes on targets in Afghanistan, Daniela Veleva Refugees Agency spokeswoman said.Veleva did not rule out the possibility of an increased influx of immigrants fleeing from the Taliban regime but said the Refugees Agency is prepared to cope with such a problem. Two transit centres for refugees will be built in this country under the EU PHARE [Economic and Reconstruction Aid for Eastern Europe] Horizontal Programme, most probably in two years` time. One of these facilities will be located at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the Turkish border, and the other one at Sofia Airport. Applicants will be interviewed to judge their eligibility for refugee status. `Some 90% of refugee status seekers are actually economic migrants,` Veleva commented.
