`The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry views the assassination of Israeli Minister of Tourism Rehavam Zeevi as an attempt to sabotage the chances for stability in the Middle East,` Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Elena Poptodorova said. Poptodorova extended Bulgaria`s condolences and expressed concern for this new act of terrorism `We categorically condemn this terrorist act, which occurred immediately after the statement made by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon,` she said. Seventy-five-year old Israeli minister Zeevi died shortly after he was shot, CNN reported. Rehavam Zeevi was one of the cabinet ministers who had submitted their resignation and expected that it would be accepted on October 17. Soon after the assassination the France Press received an anonymous call in which the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine /PFLP/ claimed responsibility for shooting Zeevi. The attack was meant to avenge the Israeli assassination of PFLP secretary general Abu Ali Mustafa in August this year. Sharon told the members of his party Likud on October 16 that should the negotiations with the Palestinians be renewed, he may agree to the establishment of a Palestinian state.
