PARLIAMENT EXPECTED TO PASS 24 BILLS BY DECEMBER

`The legislative program of the Simeon II National Movement envisages the adoption of 24 bills by the end of the year,` Ognyan Gerdzhikov, Parliament Speaker, said. By December 21, when the MPs will go on Christmas recess, 30 regular plenary sessions will take place. `We will work hard, there will be extraordinary sessions,` Gerdzhikov added. According to him, 18 of the 24 bills are most important because these harmonize Bulgaria`s legislation with the European one. The program of the parliamentary majority also includes the Budget Act, the Privatisation Act, three taxation acts, amendments and supplements to the Act on Foreign-Trade Transactions in Arms and in Potential Dual-Use Goods and Technologies, key anti-corruption conventions, a new Code of Taxation Procedure and amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure. Parliament Speaker Ognyan Gerdzhikov said that the parliamentary majority has promised to deal with the secret police files law separately from the others, and will do so. He said that it is yet to be discussed whether the files of the communist era secret services will ultimately be destroyed or there will be changes in the law on the access to the secret police files. `Any changes in the law have to comply with experts` opinion and the experience of other countries,` he said. According to Gerdzhikov, the current law is used for manipulations and political pressure.
