Tauziat downed Bulgaria`s Magdalena Maleeva 7-6 (3), 6-7 (6), 6-3 Sunday. In another opening day match, eighth-seeded Silvia Farina Elia of Italy defeated Anke Huber of Germany 6-2, 6-4. Also, Iroda Tulyaganova of Uzbekistan downed wild card Lina Krasnoroutskaya of Russia 6-4, 6-1. Tauziat, a Frenchwoman who turns 34 this week, is the oldest active player in the top 100 of the women`s circuit. This is her 16th attempt at the Zurich title. She was a finalist in 1991 and 1997.
