The participants in the Bucharest meeting of the Joint CEFTA Committee reached a compromise on October 11, regarding the trade with farm produce, on which opinions differ, Romanian foreign minister Mircea Geoana said. The document, signed by the heads of the delegations of the seven CEFTA member countries, says that Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Poland can protect their national interests as regards the trade with farm produce, and Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia can continue the liberalization of the bilateral trade, Geoana said. He added that if Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia believed that they were ready and if they were interested to go on with the liberalization, they should be allowed to do so. Romania and the other countries were worried about an increase in the deficit of the trade balance with some CEFTA countries, especially regarding the farm produce. The delegations of the seven CEFTA member countries discussed the CEFTA summit at a prime-minister level, to be held on 16 November in Bucharest, the intention to invite Croatia to it for preparing its possible joining CEFTA, the relationship between the free-trade agreement and the integration of the participating countries into the EU.
