NINETY AIR FORCE UNITS REFORMED

`Ninety air force units have been reformed in keeping with Agenda 2001,` General Stefan Popov, Air Force Chief of Command Staff, said. Thirteen units were restructured, 55 were disbanded, eleven were put under different command and 9 new were established. The staff was reduced with 30%. 1,100 career officers were given six-month notices, giving them the right to apply for any vacancies in the air forces. 500 civilian staffers were laid off. `The Dobroslavtsi air base, located near Sofia, will be closed down in 2003,` General Stefan Popov, also announced.
